About Regatta-Ready Camps
Are you looking for a challenge? If yes, then Regatta-Ready Camps are for you!
During these special camp sessions, campers aged 8 years and up enhance their basic paddling skills and learn team racing skills, crew/team boat skills in war canoe, Kayak-4 (K-4), Canoe-4 (C-4), and relay races as examples.
The focus is on team spirit as the campers will participate in teams, representing the ORCC, at regional regattas organized by the Eastern Ontario Division of Canoe Kayak Canada. Campers will have loads of fun competing in a "race-type” environment with similar teams from other clubs from around the province including Carleton Place, North Bay, Rideau, Sydenham, and many more.
ORCC coaches are certified by the Coaching Association of Canada, and are trained to get campers "regatta ready" to compete in regional regattas offered on the Saturday immediately following the Regatta Camps at Gananoque, Carleton Place, or Sydenham. Last year, many ORCC competitors won medals and ribbons, and were recognized for their paddling skills at these regattas.
Regatta-Ready camps are a great complement to the Canoe Kids Camps – learn how to paddle, then build on those skills and compete at a regional regatta.
Please
note that all campers must have the equivalent swimming ability of the
Lifesaving Society Swimmer 4 level. For more information on the
Swimmer 4 swimming requirements please contact a City of Ottawa
aquatics department.
ORCC provides boats, lifejackets and coaches for the regattas.
Campers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the regattas, and there is usually an opportunity to car-pool with other parents.
