Canoeing Basics and Water Safety

Recreational Canoeing and Water Safety – Child, Youth and Adult

Valuable to the recreational canoeist who wants to learn or improve existing cottage pleasure/tripping canoe skills.

The following is a course outline that we will cover in about 6 hours:

Skills
Bow and stern a canoe;
Carry and launch a canoe safely;
Enter and exit the canoe safely (shoreline and dock if possible);
Position oneself, balance and trim the canoe;
Move the canoe forward in a relatively straight line, as well as turn right and left;
Pivot, move sideways, stop, and reverse the canoe’s direction.

Maximum class: 4 participants.  Sessions will be postponed to fill another convenient session if less than 2 participants are registered, but this can be negotiable, if necessary.

When registering for this program, print off and complete the Membership form and select Canoeing Basics program.  Total cost is $60.00 per person (you do not need to be an ORCC member to take this course). Bring both the form and the fee to your first class.
