We are excited to introduce our new ORCC website and hope you find it a good source of information on the club and coming season.
It was great to see so many members at the ORCC AGM on March 25th. We regret to say good-bye to our departing board members: Sally, Tami and Kirk. Their commitment of time and energy to the club has been much appreciated and although we’ll miss them at our meetings we look forward to seeing them out on the water. The ORCC board welcomes some new and returning members, Will Moizer, Karen Knox, Marg Jones and Kirsten Devenny.
We hope you have all stayed fit over the winter! We have had several athletes training at Rideau this past winter and 2 of those athletes attended the Florida spring training Camp; Emmett and Natalie. One of the goals at ORCC is to provide athletes with an opportunity to become the best that they can be.
This summer there are many events planned Nationwide in paddling. The 2009 season is a bit longer and the Canada Summer Games are in PEI in August (a great event for our High Performance athletes 23yrs. and under), the Senior World Championships in Halifax Nova Scotia (an amazing event to see the best in the world in our sport; that now including the Paddle All participants as medal events); the Canoe Kayak Canada National Championships, as usual will be starting the Wednesday before Labour Day weekend and running for the 5 days, finishing off with the Can Mas event for Masters on Labour Day Sunday.
Of course there are the usual events for all our children. This year the Ontario Canoe Championships and Trillium is in Sudbury Ontario and ORCC will be attending with our usual group of athletes and more we hope.
The Dragon boat Program will continue on with our focus on the Nortel Festival and the Fall regatta in Carleton Place, and one more event in the middle.
Paddle All we hope will be bigger and better, with several of our athletes attending the Senior World Championships in Nova Scotia.
