Ready, Set...GO!

Join us this summer as the Ottawa River Canoe Club as we launch a Special O / Competitive Paddle All program aimed at promoting participation in the sport of sprint Kayak for individuals living with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Although all abilities are welcome, paddlers must be comfortable on the water.

For the competitive program, participants will be divided into two groups with coach LA leading athletes living with Downs Syndrome while coach Andrea will be partnering with Ausome Ottawa and leading athletes living with ASD. L.A Schmidt and Andrea Nicholls are highly experienced coaches bringing much enthusiasm and dedication to opening up competitive opportunities for athletes of all abilities. Both teams will use a mix of recreational and sprint kayaks to introduce paddlers to the sport of sprint paddling and racing. Each group will have two coaches and be limited to 9 participants and include safety orientation, technical instruction, and instruction by highly experienced and qualified coaches.

Competitive ORCC ASD group in partnership with Ausome Ottawa:

The ASD group will be a weekly progressive competitive paddling program for individuals looking to build on their already developed rec kayaking skills. Athletes will complete workouts in their boats each session, they will then have the opportunity to use their skills learned in training in a race format through regattas over the summer months - this is best suited for youth who have been on the water before and want to move their boat faster and build their paddling endurance.

Coach Andrea will work with athletes to develop their fitness and technique and build each athlete's confidence on the water. Athletes will learn about paddle selection, boat preparation, warm-up, cooldowns, and training and eventually, they will have the opportunity to test their skills on a racecourse striving for personal bests, and finally having the ability to experience the thrill of a race day at local regattas in the Ottawa area! This program will be supported by Ausome Ottawa-trained volunteers and staff and we are excited to be working together on this exciting opportunity.

The revenue from these additional fees goes directly to affiliated sports associations as we are required to impose them if we want to compete against other clubs and participate in the wider paddling community.

ORCC Credit Card Policy:

ORCC offers a variety of payment methods such as e-transfer, credit card, and PayPal.   However, credit card/PayPal transactions cost the club thousands of dollars every year.  In an effort to keep program pricing reasonable, we ask those participants who wish to pay by credit card or PayPal to ensure you also pay the credit card/PayPal convenience fee to help offset the costs to the club.  No convenience fee is charged for e-transfers to treasurer@orcc.ca
