Camp Details:

The Ottawa River Canoe Club, in collaboration with Bloom Therapeutic Recreation & Fitness is excited to announce that we will once again be offering a unique inclusive camp option for individuals living with intellectual and developmental disabilities! 

Developed by a team of Registered Recreation Therapists and supported by future Therapeutic Recreation graduates from Algonquin College, our camp programs have been developed with a person-centered approach and strengths-based care in mind. Our goal is to nurture and enhance each campers’ love for nature and watersports, through stimulating outdoor experiences! 

While spending their time outdoors and on the water, our campers will experience many exciting adventures that will help build self-esteem and improve their social skills while also developing new motor skills, engaging in regular physical activity and experiencing the many benefits on their mental health that nature provides.

Recreational and sprint canoes and kayaks are used to introduce our campers to the sport of CanoeKayak. The daily on-water activities will include a safety orientation, technical instruction, games, as well as individualized adaptations and support on the water. While all abilities are welcome, campers must be comfortable on the water.

One-on-One Support

We maintain a staff ratio of 1:3; however, if you believe that your camper will need one-on-one support the ORCC can accommodate that. Simply register as you would any other camper and ensure you state that additional support will be required when filling out the intake form. Upon review of the registration form, additional staff will be assigned and you will subsequently be billed for the additional staff. Participants are also welcome to provide their own support worker if that is deemed the most appropriate course of action.

With our specialized intake method, our team will provide guidance and ensure that all health considerations, unique characteristics, strengths, interests, and personal goals are shared and integrated in the camper’s individual recreation plan. While we will provide the necessary level of support for each individual, we do require all of our our campers to be comfortable with their own personal care needs, and otherwise providing their own personal support companion during camp hours if necessary.

Camp Schedule 

  • June 20 - August 26 
  • Monday - Friday
  • 09:00 - 15:00
  • Early drop off and late pick-up is available from 8:00AM to 16:00 for an additional $80.00 per week

Camp Cost

  • $450 + HST 
  • $360 + HST (Short Week)

An additional detailed intake will be sent to them 2-3 weeks before their chosen camp dates. This intake will outline additional information about the camper such as their strengths, abilities, interests, sensorial considerations, fears, goals and independence with activities of daily living. COVID Rules and Regulations:

ORCC is operating as if we will be under the same COVID rules and regulations as we were in 2020 & 2021.  Our Summer Camp COVID Policy is available here.  All campers and parents will be required to abide by the policy at all times, regardless if you have received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions, bussing services will not be offered this summer.

ORCC Credit Card Policy: 

ORCC offers a variety of payment methods such as e-transfer, credit card, and PayPal.   However, credit card/PayPal transactions cost the club thousands of dollars every year.  In an effort to keep program pricing reasonable, we ask those participants who wish to pay by credit card or PayPal to ensure you also pay the credit card/PayPal convenience fee to help offset the costs to the club.  No convenience fee is charged for e-transfers to treasurer@orcc.ca

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Please be aware of the ORCC Cancellation Policy:

  • Program registration cancellations which are received two weeks prior to the start of the program will receive a full refund less the $15 non-refundable administration fee.
  • No refunds are available within two weeks of the start of the program or once the program has started; a prorated credit only will be issued.
  • In the case of injury or illness, a medical certificate may be required, and refunds will only be offered as camp fee prorated credit to be used for a future ORCC camp or program registration.
